NE&S is coordinating the project

Youth EDucation on responsible use of plastics for Cleaner Oceans and waterways (Y-EDCO)

The project starts 1st of May 2025 and is a 2-year project with funding from Eramus+.

The aim of the Y-EDCO project is to contribute to fostering an understanding of plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways using mixed technologies including Augmented Realities, (AR). The project aims to inform and influence EU Vocational Educators and Trainers (VET) in both formal and informal settings. This will foster active citizenship within the Youth sector and encourage an understanding of plastic pollution across a range of disciplines. This will encourage entrepreneurship and the future employability of young people within a range of green areas across Europe and beyond. To achieve this aim, the project has the following objectives:

  • To empower, motivate and inspire EU VET trainers to exploit a range of AR Tools to help them contribute to sustainable practices that result in less plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways, thereby contributing to the EU Green Deal and managing climate change;
  • To develop a range of freely accessible, digital training tools and modules that can be used by educators in a formal and non-formal setting to train Youth and Adult learners and up-skill existing staff/stakeholders with knowledge on a range of AR tools that can be used to empower sustainable practices that result in less plastic pollution;
  • To widely disseminate information on the Y-EDCO project and its results; to maximise the impact on EU educators and students, as well as existing stakeholders keen to exploit AR tools to manage plastic waste.

NE&S is the coordinator for writing three upcoming EU-proposals, two for Erasmus+ and one for Creative Europe Programme.

V-aRt (Virtual Reality art) aims to create a user-friendly web platform where creative content producers can share their creations with others, accessible through low-budget VR glasses or high-end VR headsets and arrange these assets into interactive VR experiences and upload and manage assets (360° videos, images, 3D models, moving image and music).

ALAD (The Augmented Learner in Art and Design)  aims to address both the issues and challenges afforded by AI in art and design education and identify methodologies for using digital, computational and generative technologies in an ethical and sustainable way in learning and teaching (L&T) in the area Fine Art and Digital Design and encourage innovative opportunities for knowledge exchange between all partners. The projerct will also develop validated and tested L&T materials in the context of digital, computational and generative technologies and Improve green, digital, deep tech, consistent and sustainable thinking within education and training institution

ZineRadicals (Raising Awareness and Empowering Women through Self-Publishing and Digital Archive on Gender Equality) with the aim to empower at least 50 women across Europe to raise awareness about gender equality by enabling zine-making through hands-on workshops and self-publishing, culminating in the creation of a digital archive to expand outreach and amplify impact across diverse communities in the EU. The objectives are to raise awareness of gender equality issues; empower women through creative expression; develop a gender equality Zine Digital Archive and foster International collaboration to expand awareness.

    Previous projects

    Smart, effective and inclusive investment in education infrastructure

    NE&S was subcontracted 2020 as education expert for Sweden for the approved tender proposal from DG EAC and did the research about the Swedish part. The lead company was PPMI from Lithuania (www.ppmi.lt).

    InterCultural DesignCamp (ICDC)

    ICDC was an innovative collaboration of four European higher education institutions from Belgium, Germany, Scotland and Sweden. All partner universities were specialised in multiple aspects of media design and production. Initiating design to production and distribution of the final products, the ICDC project brought together various areas of expertise to allow participants to familiarise themselves with the vast range of disciplines and work processes involved in media production. Tommie Nyström was the over-all coordinator of the project and Robert Sutter was the coordinator for the University of the West of Scotland.

    Creative Industries Global Network (CIGN)

    CIGN was a pan-European network for curricular development for the Creative Industries. Its aim was to identify sectorial skills-gaps, develop curricula to address these, and enable opportunities for future employment. CIGN was an ERASMUS+ strategic partnership between Artevelde University College Ghent, Linköping University, Ryerson University Toronto, Stuttgart Media University and University of the West of Scotland. Tommie Nyström was the over-all coordinator of the project and Robert Sutter was the coordinator for the University of the West of Scotland.
